Title/Subject: "Summer Treasures" Bulletin Board Submitted By: Ms. Betty
Date: 10/11/2006 Grade: Fifth
City: Virginia Beach, VA Applicable for: Pre-K - Sixth Grade
Idea:
(Idea originated from Ms. Mary in Chesapeake, VA)

I send a postcard to each of my students one week before school begins.  On the card, I welcome the child and express my delight that he or she will be in my class. I also ask him or her to bring a souvenir from a summer trip or experience.  Students share their souvenirs on the first day of school, describing their summertime experiences and pointing to locations on a map.  My students not only enjoy this ice breaker, but their souvenirs also become a quick bulletin board entitled “Summer Treasures That Brought Us Pleasure.”
